Free Time What For to Art

Fri Jul 3, 2009, 7:45 PM
Well
I am pretty far away from home right now and will be for quite some time. Although I have daily needs to take care of, such as feeding animals and whatnot, I am finding myself with a whole lot of free time. So, I decided to use it wisely, I have plenty of time to paint, practice, sketch and draw, since here I have no deterring distractions to pull me away from my work. How have you guys been liking the paintings? I need my watchers to give me some feed back! If you like em', let me know, if ya hate em', tell me, input is great.
Like I have said before, I am still working on a book of poetry called "Song From The Street Lights".
However...
I have decided to take this work in a different direction, I want to do a much smaller work (Same working title 'for now';) But take on a bit of a different theme and feel. I have not yet decided whether or not the poems that have already been pre-selected for the work will in fact be included in the volume, much of that has yet to bee seen.
Some of the main changes will be:
Illustrations for many of the poems
Story based poems instead of analytical poetry (although there still may be a presence of analytics)
A more earthy animal feel to the poems A dream state atmosphere, and ambiance

Think Brer Rabbit, Asops Fables and Watership down meets W. B. Yeats and Nine Inch Nail or Tool. Hehe
Well, since I have all this free time I'd better have something to show for it.=)
Until I find home
Peace to you and yours

Hey, thank you so much! I'm sorry I didn't say the same about your gallery sooner! Very captivating work.
Were you classically trained or self taught?
np,thanks..I did go to art college a few years back but I think all artist are self taught to a certain degree. I feel that my art has only just started to develop over the last year because I have been able to put in a lot of practice...you?

I agree, and many artists whom I talk to (even if they have been drawing for years) say that they are just finding their niche (as has been my experience). I have never been in an art class myself, but I taught one, which in and of itself taught me a lot of classic techniques and whatnot.
I do plan to attend art school however.
How important was your training to your art?
I ask this because I am still a bit unsure of the whole college for ART subject.
Thanks!=)
I done a 3 year fine art course which taught me a fair amount. It is a great opportunity to be among other artist and that alone will teach you things you cannot otherwise learn, plus it is good fun!
If it is an art related career to are leaning towards I would do a course in Graphics, I think that would lead to better job prospects:)
